How does a DEXA scan work?

It is a quick painless noninvasive scan that sends very low dose X rays that are absorbed differently by bone and soft tissues of the body. Bone mineral density is then calculated based on the information provided by these X rays. This data along with your medical history is then used to calculate your fracture risk, and determine your specific treatment plan.
